Ed VA6EF had activated a new installation based at his place of work in Onion Lake where he had access to a high speed Internet connection.  This is on the air and and active now.

We are sorry to record the passing of Ed VA6EF.  He suffered an unfortunate accident and died of complications from that.  The Echolink node is now operated by Bill VE5FN and dedicated to Ed's memory.

EchoLink® software allows licensed Amateur Radio stations to communicate with one another over the Internet, using voice-over-IP (VoIP) technology. The program allows worldwide connections to be made between stations, or from computer to station, greatly enhancing Amateur Radio's communications capabilities. There are more than 200,000 validated users worldwide — in 162 of the world's 193 nations — with about 3,800 online at any given time.(quote from Echolink website)

This node is sponsored and administered by Bill VE5FN.  You will find it as VE5FN-L>VE5RI Lloydminster.

At present the VE4JA node in Russell MB is usually connected and other nodes such as VE6MO or VE6UU in Camrose AB come and go. We're hoping to do something about the present trend toward silence on too many of the repeater systems.

The node number of the VE5RI Echolink connection is 470103. To connect via your radio through it to another Echolink station, touch A followed by the node number you are calling. Disconnect is A#. For a complete list of DTMF commands, look in the Echolink help file.  For all the information about Echolink, go to www.echolink.org, read up on it, download the free software into your computer, get registered and have fun talking around the world to hams either through their computers or their radio node links.

This service means that you can use Echolink via your laptop computer to chat back home through an Internet connection to VE5RI while away from home. It also means that your handie or mobile can connect you through VE5RI to any Echolink node in the world.

Go to the
Echolink web page for information and to download the free program.
